Working to stay on the cutting edge of wellness is a commitment! It seems that every week there is a new plant oil that is better than the previous week’s “best-for-you” oil. Most of us turn to the experts to stay abreast of the healthiest, most sustainable things to put in and on our bodies.
However, there are some things that have been agreed upon for thousands of years as beneficial that make cutting through the nourishment-noise a little easier. The tall, light purple, fragrant flower we know as lavender is one of those ancient ingredients that have a deep history in healing. There is a lot to this small bloom, including qualities that can improve the life of your dog!
The name lavender comes from the latin world lavare, which means “to wash" i.e. llavar in Spanish and lavar in French. This is because lavender was used in ancient Roman culture as a perfume for water, linens and hair. Today, lavender is cultivated in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and North and South America and its oil is used commercially for a variety of purposes.
Lavender oil is a natural disinfectant, antiseptic and anti-inflamatory agent, and when the plant is dried it makes an aromatic cooking herb best known as one member of the herbs de province. And if that weren’t enough to love this stuff, lavender is also considered sacred in a variety of cultures, and even boasts biblical references!
The sweet alluring fragrance of lavender is proven to have a calm-inducing affect that can support a wide range of issues from anxiety to migraines. It is for this reason that we developed a calming line of products featuring lavender (and lemon balm) to help your dog chill out! You can also help your dog manage anxiety with extract-infused treats, powerful daily supplements (that also contain valerian root + tryptophan) and scented beauty products.
** Warning: The use of the Isle of Dogs Chillout line may inadvertently chill you out as well. #sorrynotsorry
We could quite literally go on and on about the beautiful complexities of lavender, but lucky for you - we won’t. Isle of Dogs is proud to harness countless natural ingredients that are known to have functional value in our products - and normally we don’t play favorites. However, we will say that lavender is something you will find in almost every Isle of Dogs’ team member’s house as it has an undeniable ability to welcome in serenity, which is a key ingredient in every home.
