This Secret Ingredient Can Beat Your Dog's Bad Breath

About a year ago, a ruckus broke out across the internet about peanut butter being a dangerous, toxic food that can cause your dog harm! Cue horror movie music! Turns out, the data was misconstrued and misunderstood.

The truth: Peanut butter is super healthy for your pup (and for you)!

The benefits of peanut butter

Among its many benefits—ranging from a tasty source of healthy fat to providing a creamy dose of protein—peanut butter is actually a secret ingredient for beating bad breath. Why?

Gut health: In moderate amounts in its raw form, peanut butter keeps your dog’s digestion flowing. Just like in us, a healthy gut leads to a healthy, well, everything else! And that includes your dog’s mouth!

Immune health: Peanut butter provides a healthy dose of vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. Plus, it’s full of immune-boosting B6. These keep your dog’s immune system running in tip-top shape, helping your pup defeat the yucky oral bacteria build-ups that cause bad breath.

OK, so peanut butter is great! What kind do I buy?

You can give your dog a puzzle toy stuffed with the raw stuff. Just be sure you pic a natural brand because it has less sugar than commercial brands. However, do NOT purchase a sugar-free jar of PB. The sugar is replaced with ingredients like xylitol, which is toxic to your pup.

Finally, you can also pick up peanut-butter-packed treats. Hard, crunchy treats help scrape your dog’s teeth, too, so combine that action with the mouth-healthy benefits of the raw ingredient!
